Our PLC Process

1. Monitoring student learning on a timely basis.

Teachers have worked hard and have been instructed to do formative assessments at the end of every period. Different teachers use different methods. In the past several years we have been able to reach almost every parent via e-mail and parents have the opportunity to view their child’s grades on line.

2. Creating systems of intervention to provide students with additional time and support for learning.

One of the best things we did at FCHS is to hire an academic lab coordinator. This teacher along with one aide works in the academic lab to assist struggling students. If a student show signs of academic weakness when they enter their freshman year, then they are assigned one hour in the academic lab for help with their assignments and study skills.  These students will continue stay in the lab until they are released by the academic coordinator. In addition if we have a student failing several subjects then this student may be assigned to the lab more than one hour a day. Our lab has been very effective for several reasons but in my opinion the biggest two are: (1) lab time is during the regular day, it is a high bred study hall with help and supervision. (2) Students are forced to do their work and are monitored on a daily basis. Statistics include:

Statistics for the Academic Lab including the years 2010-2011, 2011-2012, and fall of 2012:

During the fall semester of 2010 the Academic lab saw on average a total of 35 students per day.  A total of 164 classes were taken by the students utilizing the lab, of those classes 154 of those classes were passed in the fall semester.  94% of the classes taken in the fall were passed.

During the spring semester of 2011 the Academic lab saw on average a total of 42 students per day.  A total of 169 classes were taken by the students utilizing the lab, of those classes 150 classes were passed in the spring semester.  89% of the classes taken in the spring were passed.

During the fall semester of 2011 the Academic lab saw on average a total of 24 students per day.  A total of 188 classes were taken by the students utilizing the lab, of those classes 175 classes were passed in the fall semester.  93% of the classes taken in the fall were passed.

During the spring semester of 2012 the Academic lab saw on average a total of 40 students per day.  A total of 202 classes were taken by the students utilizing the lab, of those classes 169 classes were passed in the spring semester.  84% of the classes taken in the spring were passed.

During the fall semester of 2012 the Academic lab saw on average a total of 41students per day.  A total of 256 classes were taken by the students utilizing the lab, of those classes 237 classes were passed in the fall semester.  93% of the classes taken in the fall were passed.

3. Building teacher capacity to work as members of high performing collaborative teams that focus efforts on improved learning for all students.

Every other Wednesday during the school year we dismiss school at 2:00 PM and departments collaborate until 3:45 PM. I am happy to say that all departments used common assessments to assess their students. Teachers and department utilize this time to build strong curriculum.
