Greg Kushnir, principal of Esther Starkman School in Edmonton, Alberta, has worked in education for more than 30 years. He is a former high school teacher, middle school teacher, middle school assistant principal, K–6 principal, and K–9 principal.

As principal of the Ellerslie Campus and Terrace Heights Elementary School (in the Edmonton Public School District), Greg and his staff implemented professional learning community concepts which lead to dramatic improvements in student achievement. Greg’s challenge at Esther Starkman has been to work with his new staff (from 38 different schools) to build the culture of a PLC from the ground up.

In 2010, Greg received an Alberta ASCD Award for Innovative Practice. He has been nominated twice for Alberta Excellence in Teaching awards.
